What is the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA)?
The Electronic System for Travel Authorization is an automated system that checks if the travellers who wish to enter the United States are meeting the requirements of the VWP. It requires the same information that currently passengers VWP have to submit in the I-94W while they are traveling to the United States.
The Department of Homeland Security, the border and U.S. Customs, have given the option to the traveller or to a third party designated by him/her to fill the application for travel authorization online. Once all information has been completed and details on the trip have been submitted, they will be analysed to decide if the applicant may qualify for a travel authorization. The system will automatically provide the answer before the travel date. The airline that you will use for the trip most likely will check that you have a travel authorization before boarding.
Who should obtain an electronic travel authorization (ESTA)?
All passengers traveling to the United States of America under the Visa Waiver Program (WVP) are requested to obtain a travel authorization before leaving. Further, even children traveling with their parents with the same ticket, must receive a travel authorization. It is allow forwarding the request at the name of the passengers to a designated third party.
How do I request permission to travel to the U.S.?
To apply for travel authorization, please complete the appropriate online form. Just answer all the questions indicated and send the authorization request.
Can I ask others to make the request for me, if I did not have internet access?
Yes, a friend, a relative, a tour operator or other third parties may make a request on your behalf.
How far in advance should I apply for travel authorization?
Applications may be submitted at any time prior to travel. The Department of Homeland Security strongly recommends sending the request at least 72 hours before the departure date.
How long valid is my authorization?
The authorizations are valid for two years or until your passport expires, depending on which occurs first of the two. During the period of validity of the traveller may enter the United States several times, without the need to apply for another ESTA. Our agency operates a service of record keeping of your application.
As soon as I received my travel authorization I am automatically accepted in the U.S.?
Once you have received a positive response, you are authorized to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program. However, your entry into the territory of the United States is not automatically guaranteed. Upon your arrival you will be subject to routine inspections by an immigration agent that will validate your entry into the United States.
Once submitted the form you can change the information entered in ESTA application form?
Travellers are not authorized to change information already submitted through a request form, except the e-mail address, the telephone number and the information about your trip. We strongly advise you to pay close attention to the correctness of your personal information and passport during registration (identification, passport number, issuance and expiration date of this). Once entered these data are non-correctable anymore.
What should I do if my permission to travel is denied?
If the permission has been denied and the traveller wishes to continue with the trip, he must apply for a visa at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. Please note that in this case, our agency will not charge you with the amount of $ 4 imposed by CBP.GOV for non-approved applications.
May I need to request a new authorization via ESTA?
Yes, in some cases you may need to request a new authorization through ESTA. You will need to obtain a new permit if you have a new passport or there is a change of name, nationality or sex or if it has changed the answer to any of the questions "yes or no" of the ESTA. Furthermore, once the authorization has expired, you will need a new ESTA authorization. Travellers can also update destination addresses or itineraries even after their ESTA approval, even if that change is not mandatory.
Am I required to provide information about my trip?
Information about your trip and the address where you will stay in the United States are not considered mandatory.
